Dr. Chris McClernon is an active duty U.S. Air Force officer and Developmental Engineer. He is currently serving as a program officer at the Air Force’s European Office of Aerospace Research & Development, London UK. In his current role he created and manages the first-ever overseas Air Force research program dedicated to the behavioral sciences. Dr. McClernon’s portfolio funds research related to autonomy, cognitive sciences, and human factors engineering in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Dr. McClernon graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Sciences. He then conducted aircraft operational test and evaluation prior to selection for a graduate school position in Industrial Engineering at North Carolina State University. After earning his Master’s degree, Dr. McClernon served on faculty at USAFA prior to his selection for the PhD program in Modeling and Simulation at the Naval Postgraduate School. He then served in research and staff positions at the Air Force Research Laboratory before supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Following his deployment, Dr. McClernon returned to USAFA as a Research Director and Associate Professor.
Dr. McClernon is a commercial pilot with more than 1,100 flight hours, and he is an adjunct faculty member at the Air Force Test Pilot School. He is an entrepreneur and owner in real estate and consulting small businesses. In the U.S. he is a volunteer pilot for Veteran’s Airlift Command, Angel Flight, and Pilots-n-Paws.
Dr. McClernon currently lives in London UK with his wife and two sons. In their free time they enjoy traveling and the outdoors.
